My name is Kristina, and I’m a 38-year-old wife and mom to three sweet boys ages 5, 3, and 1. I have a B.A. in Psychology from UC Berkeley, and I have worked in the realm of fitness and nutrition for over 19 years. I am an advocate for the pursuit of knowledge and have a passion for staying on top of the newest science in the fields of fitness, nutrition, and lactation through research reviews, online scientific journals, and anecdotal evidence that I have gathered through the practical application of the data I have available. Science is constantly evolving, and so is my approach to achieve sustainable weight loss while breastfeeding.
I found my place in online coaching after working with an online coach myself. I was prescribed a restrictive, low-calorie diet plan and actually achieved some dramatic results. But it came at a cost. After three months on my low-calorie plan, things took a turn for the worst. I quickly started gaining unwanted weight no matter how much I exercised or miles I ran. My hair and nails started to fall out. I was moody, tired, and emotionally unstable. I couldn’t sleep and was constantly cold. My period become inconsistent and then eventually stopped. I didn’t want to hang out with friends because I felt insecure and out of control. I found myself binge eating in private. And even though I have the most supportive partner who has always made me feel beautiful and loved, I felt so unattractive and inadequate around him. In the few months before our wedding, I put on 30 pounds, and in the days before I walked down the aisle, I could not fit into my wedding dress. I become even more obsessed with and consumed by diets and losing weight, and it was all that I could focus on. During what should have been the happiest time of my life, I was absolutely miserable. I see this in so many new moms who should be relishing in postpartum life, yet are so frustrated and unhappy feeling like they are spinning their wheels and losing complete autonomy of their bodies and goals. This is not how anyone should be living life, let alone one of the most special and unique times of their life!
I went down the rabbit hole looking for a solution. I tried keto, intermittent fasting, raw vegan, paleo, gluten free, and even a fruitarian diet (and this was back in 2010 when most of these diets were unheard of). Unable to find answers from doctors, nutrition coaches, personal trainers, or other fitness enthusiasts about these complex issues surrounding my hormonal imbalances and inability to once again lose weight, I began to seek out my own answers.
After another two years of continued research, coursework in a M.S. Nutrition program, expensive (yet unsuccessful) treatments, diagnosis of a thyroid disorder, and talking to other men and woman who found themselves fighting a similar battle, I knew it was my desire to help and educate those battling the same issues I was. I’ve made it my mission to educate myself on biology and chemistry, as well as the intricacies of the human (and especially female) metabolism in order to help others facing struggles with weight loss. Once I became a mother, many of the same issues resurfaced while I struggled to adjust to my new life, I saw that I was far from alone.
I have been privileged to have joined over 900 mamas (and counting) through their postpartum wellness journey. We are in this together. Thank you for giving me the chance to absolutely love what I do.
